For the first time in AU, all passenger vehicles came with air conditioning standard (barring the AU utility & tray back) giving Falcon customers particularly good value for money. The AU Falcon was fitted with a completely new air conditioning system developed by US based Air International. Featuring Clutch Cycling Orifice Tube (CCOT) technology, the TX valve was finally ditched in the name of reduced complexity and therefore gaining increased reliability. The new system also allowed a reduction in refrigerant charge quantity - a real plus for the environment.
An AU Falcon specific clutch controlling strategy meant less rapid clutch cycling at higher speeds for further improved reliability and economy. The new system also saw the previously copper condenser and evaporator replaced with aluminium cored items both for lightness and efficiency. Fittingly, most magazine writers at the time felt the AU's air conditioning significantly out performed the VT's for cool down time as well as overall air flow output - especially handy in Australia's hotter regions.
