Wheels & Tyres:
New wheels were specified right across the range with no carry-over styles from EL what so
ever. Making this all the more necessary was of course the above mentioned track
change meaning decreased off sets even requiring new steel wheels for the Forte (ex GLi).
The Futura received alloy wheels for the first time (even if they did look like hub-caps) and 16" wheels became standard across the entire XR range replacing the EL's 15" factory rims leaving the XR8 at a slight dis-advantage to the 17" equipped SS. By the end of the AU1 17" wheels had become standard equipment on all XR8's matching the VT's specifications if not new found power output.
Note - due to the new offset of the AU's rims, fitment of AU wheels to an early model will require extended studs & a hub spacer. While both available, there are no promises as to the reliability or legality of this set up - despite the incredibly good looks of many an AU wheel when fitted to earlier models. Similarly early model wheels will not fit the AU as the wheels will stick out in the guards striking the guard lip when the suspension is compressed - highly illegal and arguably unsafe. I've seen it done and it ain't a pretty sight.
For individual wheel styles as fitted to each AU model, please refer to our Specifications Pages.
