Summary:
Sharing it's overall styling with the GLi, (see comments on it's shape under GLi specs) the
Futura came with just enough extras to make life just that little bit more enjoyable.
From the cruise control to ABS brakes standard, life never was this easy! Interior
wise, new colours, front power windows and rear head rests were the major items while on the
exterior body coloured mirrors and different wheel covers (ok - hub caps) supplemented
the
Futura badges to give it a slightly different look to the lower specified GLi.
Available in sedan and wagon, most of the Futura specs were carried over as the base for
the XR6 & XR8's meaning you didn't miss out on much. Like the GLi, the Futura's styling
produced a particularly attractive car - one that responded equally magnificently to mods whether
it be a new set of wheels or Tickford's impressively styled body kit. Available also
in a V8, the Futura presents plenty of scope for the modifier or family man alike with the
six being equally responsive depending on your budget and taste. For an in-detail look
at what made the Futura and a complete specification listing read on:

Dual system fuel gauge.
Reliable 'petrol always' starting system.
Completely compatible with Ford's 'Smartlock' security system (including engine immobiliser).
The only factory fitted and warranted system for the EF Falcon.
NOTE: due to the need for petrol starting, it is necessary to always keep a minimum of a
quarter of a tank of petrol available at all times. Regular running on petrol
(once a week) will keep
this fresh as well as keeping the injectors clear and trouble free. Ensure the petrol is
cycled regularly (used & refilled) to keep fuel from going 'off' and damaging petrol running
systems. To avoid petrol pump damage, never allow the vehicle to run on LPG with an
empty petrol tank as this will cause the petrol pump to burn out.
Floor mounted hand brake handle (left side of driver's seat).
Highly effective 'mini drum' dedicated rear handbrake inside of
each rear disc brake. Note: Use of this hand brake mechanism as
a moving braking device may cause damage to the rear shoes.
ABS brakes standard - $990 option when new on GLi.
Cruise control standard (via steering wheel mounted ON/OFF, RESUME and +/- buttons) with
3 cancelling points - extremely easy to use compared to Commodore's clumsy & fragile stalk
mounted system with only 2 cancelling points (by ON/OFF function or brake application).
Minimum turning circle - 10.9 metres diameter or 11.3 for the wagon.
15" x 6.0" steel wheels with Silver painted & clear coated 11 slanted spoke, plastic wheel covers (with those of the EL, one of the

15" alloy wheels optional (same as those fitted to the EF Falcon 'Classic').
Optional 16" X 7" Tickford 5-spoke alloy wheels with Michelin P225/50 VR16 tyres - N/A on wagon.
The above 16" wheels only available in conjunction with the sports suspension option.

Rear inertia reel seat belts for all passengers (sedan).
Rear inertia reel seat belts on outside seating positions and
adjustable rear centre lap belt for centre position (wagon).

Body coloured electrically adjustable fold away exterior rear view mirrors.

Optional twin louver front exterior sun visor - same as used right back to EA.
Optional interior mounted rear window louvres (semi gloss black, powder coated steel)
for sedan or wagon.
Optional exterior mounted rear window louver (black plastic)
available in sedan only.
Optional clear wind deflector for front windows.
Optional electric glass sunroof on sedans only - fully imported from Germany with tilt
and slide functions. An automatic pop-up wind deflector reduces wind noise and buffeting.
Optional air bag compatible 'Smart Bar' (or bull bar to you and me) - a World first.
Optional form fitted front and rear mudflaps.
Optional bonnet and headlight stone guards.
Optional Tickford fitted body styling kit which included styled front, side & rear skirts as
well as a boot mounted spoiler with integrated high mounted stop light - sedan only.
Optional separate boot mounted spoiler with integrated high mounted stop light - sedan only.
Polycarbonate halogen headlamps with integrated indicator and park lamps (overall shape of
light has been changed from ED - previously with a glass lens). - This change not only
brought with it significant weight savings, but removed the need for head light protectors
due to the new polycarbonate lenses near on shatter proof construction.
WARNING: fitment of brighter higher wattage headlight globes may damage the
lenses of these headlights, yellowing or melting the polycarbonate lenses depending on how
hot they get.
New tail lights (sedan) with clear lenses replacing the ED's amber indicators.
High mounted stop light.
Body coloured licence plate lamp (sedan only).
Plastic headlight protectors optional - despite the pointlessness of them due to the

Moulded cloth covered headlining.
Vinyl covered sun visors with passenger vanity mirror.
Black coloured seat belts.
Front Door map pockets standard.
'Futura' badge above glove box lid - or on the glove box itself in passenger air bag
equipped vehicles.
Optional vinyl trim on seats and door trims - available only in conjunction with
the automatic column shift & Mako Mist interior colours. (In other
words, your basic taxi interior).
Centre consol with large storage compartment, centre arm rest and
integrated cup holder. *Centre consol now meets neatly with the carpet on
either side - finally
minus the EA - ED's poor fitting and daggy looking 'wings' on each side.
