With late model vehicles ever increasing glass areas and Australia's harsh climate, Ford felt it necessary to protect the vehicle occupants by adding solar control glass to it's EL Falcon range in 1996. This "Smart Tint Glass" as Ford's brochures called it, was fitted to all side and rear glass on the EL Falcon reducing UV transmissions into the vehicle by 40% over previous levels. A reduction of 20.3% in total solar transmissions also helps keep the vehicle cabin cooler - with Ford claiming a 8% reduction in the time taken to reduce cabin temperatures to a comfortable level. All in all this adds up to an equivalent of SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 15 - recognised from most sun screens providing a high level of protection from skin damage.
