Shelley's Cruiser: EB XR8

(Back to AU Visitors Cars.)

Gee some girls get it lucky...  The EB was celebration time for Ford fans and Shelley's husband's - Daniel - efforts are no exception, with this 91' model EB Falcon XR8 taking the cake as far as originality in Ford quarters is concerned.  It's no secret that late model 'large' car owners can be a little conservative at times so it's refreshing when one comes along who's not afraid to try something a little different.  And with husband Daniel as President of the Newcastle Xtreme Performance Ford Club there's no way Shelley could have gotten away with owning anything less...

Coming with Ford's standard H.O. 5.0 litre V8, Shelley's beast is backed by Ford's smooth shifting 4 speed auto with a LSD 3.25:1 ratio diff completing the transaction from mumbo to asphalt.  Making the final connection are a gorgeous set of 18 x 9" ROH Azzuros (same as that available on the T2 & T3 TE50's as well as XR's) with 235/40R18 Kumho rubber attached.  Keeping things tidy when go comes to whoa are a set of DBA cross drilled & slotted rotors with Bendix Premium brake pads providing the friction component.  'Super Low' Kings Springs & Munro Shocks keep a level on things while extractors, high flow cats and a full 3" mandrel bent exhaust help provide the aural sensations when Shelley doesn't have her stereo pumpin'

And speaking of stereos, Shelley doesn't miss out on much with this combo providing plenty of listening pleasure for those long trips and cruise missions alike.  Providing the good stuff is a Pioneer DEH-P7350 head unit (6 RCA's, 4 volts output) backed up by a same brand 12-stacker with Kicker DX-700 D-Class mono amp and Kicker ZX-460 4 channel stereo amp feeding the animals in the back.  2 Stinger 1 Farad Capacitors provide extra oomph when the going gets tough with a digital display helping Shelley keep an eye on things in the sound department.

2 Pioneer TS-A1665 6" 2-ways found their way into the front doors via custom pods with VDO Dayton QM-6920's (6 x 9" in size) help fill the gaps up the back supported by a pair of Kicker S12L7 Solo Baric Subs mounted in a custom box behind the back seat.  Phew!

Back to the body shell and never one to leave the exterior completely alone, 'Black Magic' tint helped complete the picture in a not-so-legal shade while a couple of whopping holes in the bonnet letting whole world see that Daniel isn't joking when he chooses to keep the XR8 badges on.

Looking all the while like something inspired by a Mitsubishi Evo, it provides for a refreshing look at Ford's early 90's return to form with plenty of originality thrown in.  And as for water making it's way into places it isn't welcome...says Daniel of his work "the only trouble I've had is water rusting the starter solenoid and locking the starter on when I started the car but a new well sealed one fixed that.  The engine bay is detailed every week with a silicon based spray after its cleaned which helps keep the water out of the electronics."

Overall a very nicely balanced modification scheme - along the lines of what we might usually expect for our Drawings Page - Daniel & Shelley you should be proud!
