Sony's AU Falcon XR8 Xplods!

While not exactly new to the show scene (since building this car Sony has completed an AU2 version as well) this car gives some great ideas all the same.  From the dark carbon fibre dash centre pod to the great looking door trims, this AU shows how it should be done.  Designed to show just how many speakers can be run off Sony's new 7 Series Amps, the XR8 runs 2 x XM7547 Amplifiers powering a total of 32 speakers.  The result is very loud indeed, with with a total of 1440 Watts (RMS) being applied.

The highlight of the XR8's boot installation has to be it's clever 2 Way motorised Amplifier Racks.  The amplifiers rise up and move out over the rear mudguard for display purposes at shows, revealing the stunning subwoofer enclosure with a floating X and 8 subwoofers crammed into it!  Below the amplifiers the DVD player and Mini Disc Changer are housed, while in between them two CD Changers provide hours of Music.  The DVD images are displayed in the rear seat monitor as well as a front monitor, (product only available in Japan at this stage).  As a source unit the Active Black Panel (CDXM700R) features a stunning display on one side and flips around to a fully functional control panel on the other, allowing the unit to be completely black when it is turned off.

The doors and parcel shelf of the XR8 have also been fully customised with illuminated Xplod logos integrated into the speaker mountings and three mids per front door.  It's really great to see the sheer amount of imagination that has gone into mounting all of the hardware - right down to the "cracked" finish behind the rear seat surrounding the subs, while using lots of factory black helps keep that integrated look.

The 7-week installation was planned and co-ordinated by Sony's Product Specialist, Stuart Jackson, with a lot of help from Strathfield Car Radio's at Concord.

And last (but not least) came that awesome looking set of 18"wheels - leaving almost an understated effect to the exterior of this wicked XR8.  Caught by the team at Falcon/Fairlane/LTD at the 2000 Shepparton Spring Car Nationals just for you (ok - and for me too!)...
