![]() If only all FE LTDs were as well looked after as this one - burgundy paintwork suits the LTD dress code right down to the ground... The STORY: "This vehicle was originally sold in 1991 (it is an Oct 1986 model) by the Ford motor co. - I believe it was used as an executive chauffer driven vehicle and was sold with 27,000 kms on the clock to the first private owner who kept the vehicle for 4 years taking it to 73,000 kms before it was stolen and driven through a barbed wire fence causing minor cosmetic paint damage, but he refused the vehicle to be returned to his possession." The Luxury EXPERIENCE:
|
"It was then sold at auction and as usual the car yard that bought the vehicle patched it up with some paint they found in the back shed that “looked close enough” and put it on the lot for 20 grand (fools). It was then found by my brother who has owned some of the best XB GT’s, Landaus, 4 doors and LTD’s ever to grace our roads and as I was looking for a car at the time he harassed me for 2 months “just to drive it” and see, as I was a Holden man and thought they were ugly as sin I only did it to shut him up, well!" "...I took this tank for a stroll around the block and I was hooked. I parted with (a little over) ten grand and a smacked up V8 Commodore (VB – VK SS look-alike) that had been hit in the front by, ironically an XF Fairlane travelling sideways around a corner." |

"Since then I have had the motor and g/box
reconditioned and the exterior paint work fixed up to make it one colour
from tip to tail. But apart from that it is virtually the same as it
was when it rolled of the line, and since I have had the car for over a
decade and spent a little over 30 grand on it in that time (including the
$12,500 purchase price) to keep it in the sensational condition it is
still in - I feel like I have got my moneys worth."
"- Apart from the spare parts purchased I have not spent a cracker on the interior and it is in sensational condition. I drive it to work every day, but have another car for other duties so I have been able to keep the k’s down to 176.000 km and every thing still works! Over the years I have been gathering bits and pieces like brand new badges, chrome bits and parts that wear and tear, including trims and a part roll of the factory slate grey velour that matches perfectly, as one day when I have more money than brains I will do a nut and bolt rebuild to factory specs." |
|
"I
was surprised when I visited your site that it appeared the Fairlane and
LTD where an unloved species but I have found my vehicle to be the most
comfortable and well appointed vehicle that still provides more luxury
than many modern vehicles and it is 20 years old. I hope you can get
a few other closet limo lovers to come out and show their beasts as they
are a fantastic cruiser and I think they look great prowling around the
streets, a lot better than the faceless pieces of plastic they pump out
now.
Cheers - Craig."

Well, Craig - we've got to say we're proud of ya - to have preserved a valuable piece of history like this and have it look so good has got to make a bloke grin from ear to hear - let's all hope you gain your wish & other FE's get the same treatment as a result of taking inspiration from your efforts!
