The final chapter in an amazing trio of cars from Matt, this one, whilst not being a Ford, is definately something to marvel. We look forward to hearing more about it's progress and hope to see Matt on a track with it soon!

Two more cars to go Andrew...

I'm waiting on some photos of my XD ute in Sydney, Phantom with a BA XR8 bonnet skin grafted onto the XD frame.

I've also got a Charger in the garage in bits waiting for some dollars and time to be spent on it.

Thanks Andrew they look great.

Next outing for the Z should be the HRCC meeting at Queensland Raceway 5-7 August.

Brakes should be sorted by then, and may also have electronic ignition to give a bit more punch, should see 150hp at the wheels when done and revving cleanlt to about 7200.

If you want, you can send me details of your races, including results and future races, and I can post them up with your car!

Yep, get one done, Tom!

Now this has gotta be one for the record books! A non-Ford on www.trueblueford.com - ha! Now all I've gotta do is get some foters of the EJ to throw at ya (only joking!!!)

Still - can't help respecting a DATSUN that looks that good! Top stuff - at least it isn't a dreddedore - now that is something that we definitely WON'T be seeing here as a visitors car - right Andrew?

BTW - what diff do you run? Your car has IRS right? How similiar was the Z IRS to the Datto 1600? Wilwood calipers - they would have cost an arm and a leg? Do any other make / brand fit - eg Beemer 6 spot?

Duggy,

There's still a Ford connection, remember the Nissan Ute and the Ford Maverick.......The Button car plan at its greatest when badge engineering was at its best.

Diff is a 3.9:1 R180 with a welded centre, I did have a 4.1 diff for a while as well to use at Amaroo and Wakefield Park, however it went bang when it was drained of oil accidently by a customer knocking it over whilst on the floor, thought he was doing the right thing by cleaning the mess up, but then forgot to tell anyone. Still it did pretty well to last for a qualifying session and 3/4 of a race before going bang.

The IRS is completely different, the 1600 uses trailing arms, copied beautifully by Holden, how many VP, VR and VS dunnydores will look like crappy 180B's in 10 years time??? The Zed usues a strut rear end with a lower wisbone arrangement back to the body. Fairly simple and pretty effective, plus able to be modified with a bit of welding and fabrication skills.

The Wilwoods were pretty affordable, about $1200 the pair from memory second hand. They are a really simple caliper and after stripping them and cleaning the pistons quite disappointing in the quality of finish for what you pay. The big advantage of course is weight, they weigh only around a couple of kilos.

You can get any brand to fit, depending on how much fabrication you want to do. To fit the wilwoods new caliper mounts were made and then the calipers were shimmed to centre them over the rotor.

No problem with getting the EJ on here!!

DEFINATELY no dunnydoors though.

Hey Matt - you need to get your backside over to www.fullboost.com.au where they've got a neat coverage of the 'Nissan Datsun Owners Club' 2005 Drag Challenge - some neat Z's doing the rounds there too inc one really neat red striped over silver model...

Got a link the club's website there too. See - who says I'm a one-eyed Ford fan?
