The Zed Story:

I have owned the Z for about ten years now, buying it from a mate when he was looking at upgrading. This is my second racing Z, the first was an ex rally 260Z that was very tired in the body and we ended up scrapping the car and putting some of the bits into this one.

It has been a successful car, taking out the 1997 NSW Marque Sports Championship with myself at the wheel, and very close to repeating the same result in 1998, a last race collision with another Z ending the season on a sour note.

I have had a five year break from racing and the car has sat in the workshop for this time, save a one off event in 2000 at Lakeside where we did all right with a car that blew the head gasket on Friday in practice and finally succumbed in the main race when it overheated on the grid waiting for the wreckage from an accident to be cleared.

The car is slowly being rebuilt as time and funds permit. So far the suspension has been rebuilt, the computer set up again, but I still need to get the ignition right, update to electronic ignition, and get the final tune on the motor, which should be good for about 150Hp at the wheels.

The body is then due for a tidy up and respray, six hard years of racing and another five tucked in the corner of a workshop have left their marks in more ways than one.

This year I plan to get the car running again and do a couple of hillclimbs and a couple of circuit races, the next being the all Historic meeting at Queensland Raceway in August. Once I have proven the competitiveness of the car it will be put on the market so I can update to something a little more modern and a bit more exciting for Production Sports cars so I can take on the $300 000 Porsches that are now winning everything.

We reckon:

The final chapter in an amazing trio of cars from Matt, this one, whilst not being a Ford, is definately something to marvel. We look forward to hearing more about it's progress and hope to see Matt on a track with it soon!
