The XR6 story begins...

I have only had the ute since early Febuary 2005. As it is leased through work it is a little difficult to modify and have the company pay for it.

It was primarily bought to tow my 240Z race car and replace my ZG as my daily driver.

The ute is basically a top of line XR6 with all the fruit, VCT motor, cruise control, premium sound.

I like the look of the AU XR’s better than the BA, plus it is the last model to wear Tickford wings.

Cost was also a factor, as I was not able to stretch to a new BA XR and comply with the lease requirements from work.

Future mods for the ute are fairly limited as it is a lease vehicle, but a decent exhaust will be fitted, something around 2.5 inch, and maybe a twin system depending on the effect on the VCT motor.

I may look at a piggy back chip, but that will depend on if I can use it on another car later.

The only other mod definitely planned is a return to the OEM tyres, Dunlop SP9000. The current tyres are cheap Chinese tyres, that whilst may be Ok on a Hyundai with a big wheel package, struggles with any semblance of grip in the wet. On more than one occasion I have turned into a road sideways when using a bit of throttle on a greasy road. Fun, yes, but doesn’t inspire confidence.

We reckon:

The classic AU shape - some love it, some hate it, but you cant deny the combination AU XR Ute shape and lovely green colour make this a clean example of where the AU went right!
